Small Bathroom Ideas: Maximising Your Space

Think Vertically

In a small bathroom, floor space is at a premium — so use your walls. Tall storage units, wall-hung vanities (which keep the floor clear), and vertical tile layouts all draw the eye upwards and make the room feel taller.

Choose the Right Sanitaryware

Compact sanitaryware has come a long way. Short-projection WCs and basins are specifically designed for smaller spaces without sacrificing style. A wall-hung WC also frees up floor space and makes cleaning easier.

Go Large With Tiles

Counterintuitively, large tiles work brilliantly in small bathrooms. Fewer grout lines mean less visual interruption, and the space feels more open as a result. A large-format porcelain tile in a light colour can transform a small bathroom.

Use a Walk-In Shower

A walk-in shower with a frameless glass panel is far less visually disruptive than a full enclosure. Glass allows the eye to travel through the space, making the bathroom feel larger than it is.

Smart Storage

Built-in recessed niches in the shower wall eliminate the need for shower caddies and look incredibly neat. A mirrored cabinet above the basin combines storage and reflection — two things that both help a small bathroom feel larger.

Light and Mirrors

A large mirror (or even mirrored wall) reflects light and creates the illusion of depth. Combine with good task lighting (backlit mirrors are ideal) and ensure natural light is maximised where possible.

Keep It Simple

In a small space, simplicity wins. A coherent colour palette — ideally light and neutral — with a single tile style throughout (floor and wall) creates a calm, open feel. Save the statement choices for a feature wall or accessories.
